Reverse Osmosis is a process in which the Osmosis process is reversed to ensure the complete filtration of the pure solvent leaving behind the impure solute particles. In other words, while in Osmosis fluids comprising a lower concentration of solute particles flow into fluids with higher concentration of solute particles to establish equilibrium; in reverse osmosis, the fluids with higher concentration of solute particles move into fluids with lower concentration of solute particles. This process is extremely useful in desalination of sea water. Making sea water potable is a sure cure to cater to the water needs of the world.
